Life coaching is a Systematic application of behavioural science to enhance life experience, work performance and well being for individuals that do not have clinically significant mental health issues or abnormal levels of distress. Coaching is about helping you take the actions necessary to realise your visions, goals and desires. It uses a process of personal discovery to build a level of awareness within you and helps you with the structure, feedback and support you need in order to reach your dreams.
The approach helps people to make changes in their lives, to set and achieve goals and enhance well being and improve emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence includes an ability to understand and regulate emotions and has been defined as the ability to adaptively perceive, understand, regulate and harness emotions in the self and others. The self study involved in developing emotional intelligence leads to greater self awareness.
There are powerful interactions between our thoughts, feelings and behavior. Changing our behavior affects our feelings and thoughts and changing our thoughts will affect our behavior. Often we have ideas about ourselves, that we have gathered along our way from teachers, parents, friends, or even just simply ourselves and our own interpretations of our failures and successes. These thoughts, often not in our immediate awareness, are the ones that have the greatest influence on our behavior. They could keep us from being who we really want to be. I believe that our greatest adventure in life is to travel to the depths of ourselves and to understand why we behave and feel the way we do.
